Simone Utler: Journalist, author and presenter – with passion
Talking to people and writing has always been my passion. So the decision to become a journalist was not very surprising for my family and friends. By now I have 20 years of journalistic experience, 9 of them in editorial offices. I covered the trial of 9/11-terrorist-supporter Mounir El Motassadeq, analysed the election and the coalition negotiations of the first black-green state government of Germany and looked at the savings plans by Airbus.
In 2013 I took the next step and started my own business as a freelance journalist, working for print, online and radio. With competencies in text, photo and audio I offer multimedia storytelling.
I also work as a presenter of events, workshops and debates.
As a generalist with a passion for research, I can quickly get into different topics and offer reports, features, reports and interviews in Germany and the world. Most: social topics, politics, travel. Sometimes: science, medicine, career. Always: close to the people.
If possible I focus on stories in Asia and Africa. Research grants brought me to China, Indonesia, South Africa and Lesotho. I trudged with orang-utans on their way to freedom through the jungle, accompanied garbage collectors in their workplace through knee-deep waste. In 2014 I did research on migrant workers, forced prostitution and human trafficking in Nepal.
